Christmas Shop

My shop will be open until December 6th.

Due to ongoing postal disruption, and the dreaded Christmas post office queue, I'm going to shut up shop early this year.  But until then I still have plenty of Xmas gifts.

Christmas Knits

Like this pack of 4 christmas mice cards CLICK HERE

I've also added some etchings all of which can be found by CLICKING HERE

An original gouache painting

I have blank notebooks to draw and write in.  Made from recycled materials.

I have plenty of prints and things too.  Feel free to look around.  On December 6th my shop will shut and I'll eat biscuits.  Thank you for supporting small businesses.

My second picture book Pigeon P.I. is published in paperback today.  Hooray!

Complete with a snazzy new blue cover, the lovely people at Andersen Press have managed to cram all the nice little details from the hardback, including the secret cover underneath the hardback dust jacket, into the paperback.

Available from all lovely bookshops today!

And to celebrate there are now some pigeon based prints in my SHOP.

TOTES!

And prints!

Just a little reminder that Santa is coming and my shop is full of screen prints and Christmas cards for those, like me, who leave it to the last minute.  I will be panic buying very soon.

Happy holidays!

Snuggle Up With A Good Book...too

Recently I made a digital poster and I liked it so much that I made a screen printed version which looks eerily similar.

These prints are available to buy here

Here are a few photos of them in progress...

Shuffle

Why shuffle when you can walk, man? That's Terry's favourite joke. Terry is the Patrick Bateman wannabe stuck in 1986 who renounces all technological updates. The only shuffling Terry does is with his feet. But he's happy. All the other penguins are happy too. Thanks to the Terry's headphones they don't have to listen to only cassette he's owned since 1991, it's Huey Lewis and the News' Sports if you're interested, also they're a pair of earmuffs short so it works out well for everybody.

This two colour screen print is now available in my print shop click here to enter shop

Christmas Print Shop - Now Open

Seasons greetings...well almost.  With Christmas just about upon us I've opened a small print shop selling handprinted cards.  You can find them all here: click to enter shop

Each card is printed by me and they're available nowhere else.  There's also gift wrap.  What more could you need?  So if you're looking for something a little different this Christmas then these could be just the thing.

This card highlights the joys of proud winter waiting staff.
Eager to please and highly professional, these penguins deliver puddings with pride.  Approximately every third Christmas one of the waiting staff loses his or her temper, and puddings have been thrown.
Days without incident 1067...

Nature documentaries may have convinced you that penguins are naturally suited to warm weather but my lack of research tells me otherwise.  They are known to wear scarves year round, and extra long scarves towards December.  The penguins bearing banners run throughout the land spreading the news that winter is coming and that it is time to reach for the extra long scarves once more.

See above for the plight of the penguins.  Thankfully polar bears love to knit and due to their complete lack of a sense of scale their scarves veer towards the extra long.  Sadly since penguins and polar bears live so far apart the postal fees are extortionate.

More prints, less seasonal, coming soon...

Elephants and Crocs

I've spent some time this week printing some more of these two.
Harumph!

Yippee!

This one is a warning to us all.  Never trust anything a monkey tells you.

Penguins

Apologies for the absence but I've been in the midst of moving from the sunny south of England to the cold, cold north of Scotland.
This is perhaps why all of my work of late is ice related.

These are some penguin prints I've been working on.

Practice makes perfect

The original

Another print i've been working on…

On the ice

The original sketch

These, and others, are on sale here http://www.littlecarouselgallery.com/#!meg-mclaren/cvx2
as are many other beautiful works by other artist.

In the meantime i'm off to dig out the mittens.

Owl crazy

Like everyone else it seems I am also going owl crazy.  This is a lady I've been working on in my sketch book today.  She'll no doubt become a lovely mass of flat colour but for now she is a wonderful mess of watercolour pencil.

This is her conductor.
He remains nameless and is no doubt going to be replaced.  Never fear for he is not bothered
because it is that wonderful time just as lunch approaches and he is thinking mostly about soup.

And these ruffians and are a few of my previous owl orchestra.  Aren't they wonderfully flat?
They urge to me to ensure you their music is not.

Caught!

Some new panda work I've finally gotten round to posting.

This fellow below was posted previously but I've now had time to screen print him.

Same with these penguins.  Photoshop no more!  Look how proud they are to be hand printed.

Escapology 102

I've been busy lately screen printing at home with all the silly timing issues and things it throws up but below is one of the prints I am working on.  It has been photoshopped however as my rebellious scanner refuses to acknowledge the colour grey.

For those intolerant to it the penguin parade is now digital free.

The victor

So after the still-to-be-drawn chase and fight for chips page this happens.

Just wait 'til the seagulls find out.

Below- The victor with his spoils.

The seagulls descend...

This is page two of the comic I was working on.
There's a flight/chase sequence to follow but I haven't  drawn that one yet.

A wee close up of the stranger. Where's he off to?

And this is how the first two pages look together.

A Stranger page

This is the first page of the comic I am working on at the moment.
Well, the first page of this section, it's infinite in structure at the moment.

and this is a little close up.

The stranger

This is the full print of my fold-out booklet.  There is also a grey version.

And as promised this is the stranger.  He's a tiny, chubby bird of mystery.
I'm currently illustrating a comic book of his exploits.

Ooh and massive congratulations to the Children's Book Illustration students who took 1st, 2nd, 3rd and many highly commended places at this years Macmillan prize.
